W03 Game Concept

The basic concept for this game was to create a ski race where as the skier is going down the mountain different obstacles come at the skier. As the skier is skiing away from the obstacles, the character has to collect some kind of pack that is equipped with a tool that when thrown at the obstacle allows the skier to escape freely. If the skier is caught, the character has to restart the level.


The environment for this game is on a ski mountain during the day. The mountain is broken up into trails. As the character completes more levels, more trails open up. However, the new trails gradually increase in the amount of tress and rocks that the character has to avoid. If these obstacles are hit the skier can be demoted to the previous level or may require rest in the ski lodge. There is a ski lodge where the character can stop rest and change/purchase new outfits and equipment. The more levels that are unlocked the more obstacles come out. These obstacles chase the character until the character collects and throws a specific pack. If the pack is not collected and thrown in the allotted time then the skier is caught and demoted back the the beginning of the level.


The character skier can be either male or female. The skier can change outfits that become unlocked with more completion of levels in the ski lodge. New outfits or equipment may also be included in some of the packs that need to be collected on the mountain. Upgraded clothing and equipment can increase the speed and turning ability of the character. 






The obstacles are a running polar bear, ski patrol, and a huge rolling snowball. In the easier levels the only obstacle that can come is the huge snowball. The intermediate levels include the polar bear and the huge snow ball. The advanced levels include the huge snowball, the polar bear, and ski patrol. These obstacles can come out at any given time while on a trail, however they come out more frequently the more advanced the levels get. If the obstacle is escaped the character earns points that lead to unlocking new levels and equipment. If the obstacle is not escaped then the character is restarted to the beginning of the level.






The safety objects are what the character has to collect in order to escape the obstacles that are coming for them. Each object will be floating some where on the trail, or the character may be required to remove their ski's and collect the item in one of the trees. While the skier is in the tree the obstacle will be circling the base of the tree. The fish needs to be collected to throw at the polar bear to provide a distraction, allowing the character to escape. The safety kit will be thrown at the ski patrol to provide them with extra supplies. The lightening bolt is used as extra speed in order to out run the rolling snowball. The snowball will vanish through the screen due to the increasing speed of the character.
