W06 Animated Title Screen

For my animation I wanted to center the eye towards the title. Both snowballs come from opposite ends and merge in the middle before exploading as the title bounces and appears between the slicing skis. This draws the eye to the "Down-Hill Challenge" that is in red. The game options are in the clouds because it helps to spread out the commotion and color from the center. I would continue to make them stormy towards the end of the animation.

W05 Title page

For my title page I wanted the center to focus around the title, which is in red as a bold color against the blue and white background. The trees are significant of the forest and the stationary obstacles of the game. The ski's are symbolic of the fact that a skier is the character of the game.

This photo shows the snowball at the bottom of the hill because when the title page is animated it will be rolling down the side of the mountain. I also plan to try and animate the text by stretching it down then releasing it almost with an elastic effect.

W05 Final Mood Board

For my overall colors I chose colors that almost look as if they came from a toy box. I wanted many pop colors that are different, but work well with each other and have a purpose. The background is white because the snow on the mountain will be white, making it the main color of the game. The forest green is used in the trees along the trails, varying in sub color. The tan will be the color of the tree stalks, varying in darkness. The blue will be the color of the sky. The black is used in accents. All colors can be used in equipment because it is subject to change based on which equipment is unlocked.

All of the main colors are used in the environment . However I included the darker white color because the trees will provide shade on some parts of the mountain, creating a grey/white color.

The skier options have a few sub colors because there are many more options. I changed the bright pink to a red/pink because red will be used in other aspects of the game. The blue is just a darker blue then the one in the main color because it will be bold and stand out as the skier equipment should. I included black again because it will be utilized as an accent color in most of the equipment on a zipper, marking or hat.

The obstacles have two sub colors. There is a beige/tan color that is a sub color of the tan/yellow main color. This is the color of the polar bear because it cannot be pure white or it would blend in with the snow. The bright yellow is the actual caution that is a brighter version of the tan/yellow main color. The red is the color of the ski patrol, but was included as a main color.

The safety objects have three sub colors. The yellow is similar to the yellow in the obstacles, but with a slighter hint of orange to it. I chose to change the color of the lightening bolt to a free/yellow. It will still pop out, but it will be a sub color of the yellow main color and the forest green. The grey color is a sub color of the black main color because it is the color of the fish. The medical kit is red and white, both of which are main colors.

W04- Mood Boards

The purpose of the mood board was to pull out colors from a professional add to see why the artist chose those colors and see how they work with each other. Then we had to pull from our own graphic and see what colors we chose matched, and how some of the colors could be modified to create a unified color scheme.

The Guitar Hero artist chose very explosive bold colors. The deep red on the outside of the cover sets a background that allows the large title and graphics to pop of the page. The bright yellow and almost white yellow contrast the red and the dark grey characters, emphasizing the energy of the game.

In my own game I have many variations of the color blue. The mountain is a blue/ blue-purple color that contrasts the forest green color of the trees. The white color is the snow which is a neutral color that makes the other colors in my scheme pop off the page.

The obstacles use many warning colors. Variations of red and yellow work well with each other, as well as the light tan color of the polar bear. The light tan is my neutral color in this case. The green is the same forest green of the trees in the environment.

The ski options have very bright colors. These colors may not follow the color of the game because they are used to customize the character. I wanted to go with very bright colors of blue, green, and yellow because they are variations of the colors that exist in the game without blending into or being the same as those colors.

The safety objects are very closely colored to the obstacle colors because they go hand in hand. The only color I am thinking about changing is the lightning bolt because it does not mix with the reds and yellows of the other colors. I would change the lightning bolt color to a blue/green that way it is not exactly the same as the green and blue in the environment or the skier options, but still matches the colors of the game.

W03- Final Game concept

The concept for this game is a ski race that involves obstacles, not opponents. As the character unlocks trails points are earned and new obstacles come up as the levels get harder. When the character earns a certain number of points they can go into the ski lodge and by equipment and other items that will help improve their game.
The game takes place during the day on a mountain with marked trails. The more trails completed the more trails that get unlocked. As the trails advance from beginner to advanced level they become more crowed with obstacles and trees that need to be avoided. If the character hits a tree or is caught by an obstacle then the character is restarted to the beginning of the level. The character can re-play completed levels to earn extra points and unlock equipment and items in the ski lodge located at the bottom of the mountain.

The characters in this game can be either male or female. As the character unlocks levels and earns points they can go into the ski lodge and change clothing, ski's and head gear. As the better gear is unlocked it improves the characters ability to turn and speed, both of which will aide in escaping and avoiding obstacles.

The beginner obstacles are stationary trees that are scattered around. The beginner level also includes a rolling snowball. The intermediate level includes more trees, the rolling snowball and the attaching polar bears. The advanced level includes heavily clustered trees with the rolling snowball, the attacking polar bear and ski patrol. Safety items will be scattered along the trail or up in a tree. The character has to collect the item and throw it at the obstacle in order to escape.

The safety items are a fish, safety kit, and lightning bolt. The fish is used to throw at the polar bear to escape, the safety kit is used to throw at the ski patrol to escape, and the lightning bolt is used to gain speed to escape the rolling snow ball.   Once the item is collected it must be thrown at the obstacle in order to escape. If this is not complete the character will be reset to the beginning of the level.

W03- sphere drawing

I really enjoyed this assignment. The blending and shading helped bring the two dimensional figure to life. This seems to be a great learning tool for when this drawings need to be replicated on photoshop. It will help to see what the end result is supposed to look like.

W03 Game Concept

The basic concept for this game was to create a ski race where as the skier is going down the mountain different obstacles come at the skier. As the skier is skiing away from the obstacles, the character has to collect some kind of pack that is equipped with a tool that when thrown at the obstacle allows the skier to escape freely. If the skier is caught, the character has to restart the level.

The environment for this game is on a ski mountain during the day. The mountain is broken up into trails. As the character completes more levels, more trails open up. However, the new trails gradually increase in the amount of tress and rocks that the character has to avoid. If these obstacles are hit the skier can be demoted to the previous level or may require rest in the ski lodge. There is a ski lodge where the character can stop rest and change/purchase new outfits and equipment. The more levels that are unlocked the more obstacles come out. These obstacles chase the character until the character collects and throws a specific pack. If the pack is not collected and thrown in the allotted time then the skier is caught and demoted back the the beginning of the level.

The character skier can be either male or female. The skier can change outfits that become unlocked with more completion of levels in the ski lodge. New outfits or equipment may also be included in some of the packs that need to be collected on the mountain. Upgraded clothing and equipment can increase the speed and turning ability of the character.

The obstacles are a running polar bear, ski patrol, and a huge rolling snowball. In the easier levels the only obstacle that can come is the huge snowball. The intermediate levels include the polar bear and the huge snow ball. The advanced levels include the huge snowball, the polar bear, and ski patrol. These obstacles can come out at any given time while on a trail, however they come out more frequently the more advanced the levels get. If the obstacle is escaped the character earns points that lead to unlocking new levels and equipment. If the obstacle is not escaped then the character is restarted to the beginning of the level.

The safety objects are what the character has to collect in order to escape the obstacles that are coming for them. Each object will be floating some where on the trail, or the character may be required to remove their ski's and collect the item in one of the trees. While the skier is in the tree the obstacle will be circling the base of the tree. The fish needs to be collected to throw at the polar bear to provide a distraction, allowing the character to escape. The safety kit will be thrown at the ski patrol to provide them with extra supplies. The lightening bolt is used as extra speed in order to out run the rolling snowball. The snowball will vanish through the screen due to the increasing speed of the character.

W02 Final Project

The process of researching which design and look I wanted my page to have led me to the conclusion that I wanted something fun and colorful. I also wanted some level of organization and symmetry to give the page to a simple and clean look. I choose bright fun colors for the words Rock, Paper, Scissors to draw the eye to the main focus of the page, which is what it is actually created for. The description and rules sections were separated on a diagonal , which helps the eye follow the description section directly down to the rules section without have a long mass of text in one area. I used the same two colors to show a connection between the two bodies of text to produce a fun but clean look. The rules graphic I chose was detailed enough without having to use a realistic looking graphic. It was intentionally placed above the rules text so the viewer of the page could read and see the rules without having to look around the page for a visual representation. The graphic parallel to the rules graphic is the only dark component of the page. However, I chose the graphic because the elements of the game are animated continuing the fun, non-realistic look I wanted my page to have. Putting all of these elements together I decided to deviate from my original plan and not include a boarder because I thought that the page would be more effective if left clean without adding too many components that can take away from the central focus of the page.

Wk02 Rock, Paper, Scissor

This is my first game design post. The purpose was to create different graphic that could display the description and rules of Rock, Paper, Scissors enhanced by different graphic designs. This project was a great intro on how to think through different ideas and designs.

The main focus of my thumbnail sketches was to create different layouts that would orient the words and photos in a symmetric way. In the beginning it was difficult to generate different ideas, but as the first few came together I found myself able to visualize what I wanted my final page to look like. The more time I spent thinking about it, the easier it was to generate different thumb nail designs. This would help to make the page look organized allowing the eye to be attracted to different components of the page. Thumbnails #2, #7, and #10 are my top ones based on how the header is arranged in relation to the graphics and the text. Once the text is inserted in the final project it will be easier to see which layout looks best based on the amount of text.

While looking for different graphic designs my main focus was to find a few with different shapes. Although they are all square, the graphic itself comes as differnt triangles, vertical, or horizantal images. This will add different perspective to my final project. The vertical image could be used as a boarder around the page, while using the horizantal and traingular shapes in relation to the text. Once the text is added it will be easier to pair a graphic image. Also, there are many different colors of each graphic design.Pairing different graphics with similar colors will provide better ascetics to my visual design. However, my top images are image #1, #3, and #6 because I wanted to use animated graphics, not the graphics with realistic human hand images. Once the page is put together it will be easier to see how the different shapes of the graphic enhance the texted provided.
